Akwaaba! Welcome to the program that is
changing the future of Africa one child at
a time!
Who We Are:
This program was started by two young people, one from
Ghana and one from the U.S. It started when Andrea, a
teacher from Massachusetts, travelled to Ghana to teach for
the summer. While she was there she taught many bright
students who seemed to have little hope that their meager
studies would ever pay off. These young students already
knew that no matter how hard they studied, they would never
be anything more than farm workers or market merchants.
Andrea knew she needed to do something to change their
bleak outlook.
While she was in Ghana, Andrea lived in Hardt Haven
Children's Home (a newly started orphanage for children
orphaned by HIV/AIDS). The director of the home, Edem
Richard, was eager to help find a solution to the problems
Andrea saw in the schools of Ghana. Edem has a big heart
and, like Andrea, "dreams big". Together they travelled the
country sparking interest in the program and looking for
possible candidates.
